I made it for my favorite gardeners. I bake for them all the time and lots of treats have been added to their coffee bar but this is a first. They have the items on an outside coffee bar and have had some problems with pilfering squirrels. I take them their treats in metal tins now to keep the squirrel from chewing through the container. I was there one night and hear a noise and we saw that a squirrel had gone to the trouble to get the metal lid off the tin and was at the lemon poppyseed banana bread. The owner raced down and rescued the bread and put the lid back on. That was funny enough that the bread was so enticing it got the squirrel to work the lid off (not that easy!) to get to it but the next day it got better. I went over to pick up something and went down to get empty containers to carry home and noticed the bread was gone. Thought “wow…must really be good if they ate it all in one day!” One of the guys came down and told me that a HUGE bird flew down, got the lid off the tin, and carried the bread off. I’m not sure I believe that “yarn” and told them so and we all had a good laugh off the story being so far-fetched and unbelievable. I laughed and said I usually tag recipes this good as a “keeper” but not sure what to label one that is so good it brings the wildlife to the table! Thought you might enjoy the story. It was a good recipe and I did mark it keeper but the story was too good not to share it here. HA Thanks for another great recipe!!

I love how flexible and forgiving banana bread can be. There options are endless. I love the lemon poppy seed combination. All your other breads look and sound delicious too!
